The Designer & Developer

Richard loves working with customers. He specialises in developing ideas to promote your offline business, to an online audience. He also loves tennis, tea and biscuits and is quite partial to a braai. A what? He’s from South Africa, it’s a BBQ on coals. He’s also a great cook, hates mowing the lawn and is handy with a kite.

Writer & Project Manager

Julie is a writer. Before that, she was a reader. She loves words and will craft them to your advantage. She also loves coffee. A lot. But prefers instant, so she can have more of it. Also partial to white wine and gardening. Born in Cairns, loves it here. Doesn’t do the Red Arrow as much she should, but such is life.

Most Energetic Team Member

Ethan is definitely the most energetic team member. His favourite things are our dog Stormy, scuba diving and rugby, as well as Coke and chocolate milkshakes. He loves going on weekend adventures and seeing new places. He’s our son and we’re a family business. Your support is valued and appreciated by the whole family.

Life Before RJ New Designs

Starting and running RJ New Designs is a culmination of so many sliding door moments. For Richard, life before coding and development was spent on the water. He loved wind surfing and then kite surfing, until a back injury brought that to a stop. After that, he ran another successful small business, moved around Australia and the world. He worked at hotels and resorts and also spent some time on tour desks.

For Julie, it’s always been about the writing. After graduating from university, she started a media role at the North Queensland Cowboys. Worked hard, went travelling and came back to Cairns. Was marketing at Cairns Regional Gallery, spent nearly a decade in communications at Skyrail before a couple of years at Tanks Arts Centre.

So, we’ve done some stuff and that helps us understand the cross-section of industry and customers we work with. In addition to running RJ New Designs, we also have a passion project called I Love Cairns, where we provide top tips and local knowledge on some of the many amazing things there are to do and see in our town, and this beautiful part of the world.
